I asked and was told most people do not count their titles. I Googled it and consulted various websites. I noticed some just go without a title. I read what Wikipedia had to say and learned it’s called “drabble” but found no clear guideline.
The game we’re playing is 100 words: no more, no less. The story must be complete, with a beginning, middle and end. It must be concise. It must be whole. What I don’t understand is this: if the title is a preamble, setting tone or scene, shouldn’t it count?
Should the title count in the count?

Very creative take on the theme. I like it!
LOL, great post for this prompt. I often wonder this myself & just go with no, it’s not part of the count… no one has told me otherwise so hmmmm… LOL
HAHAHA!!! Great take on the prompt! I myself do not title my entries, all save for once, and in that one time, I did include the title. I guess if the title is only in the title bar, no, but if its in the body of the work, yes (but that depends on the blog template used, no?). Good job!
answer: nope 🙂
clever take, Fran. 🙂
Thanks, y’all! I find it ironic that there’s this sense of rigidness around “must be exactly 100 words” but you could have a 25 word title that plays a major part in introducing characters, setting the stage, etc.
On top of that, as I was playing with word count for this week’s submission I realized Word and WordPress are following different “rules” for this. 100 words in Word does not equal 100 words in WordPress! Apparently “100” and “a” are not counted by WordPress. Such a dilemma!
Alas, now it’s time to get on with my day. Greater mysteries than this await. Thanks for stopping by & commenting.
I always write mine in Word first to get my word count and I don’t count my title, but I’ve also never had my title be a pivotal part of understanding my story. Great take, it was amusing!
